Opening Saison in Nachotka, Happy Birthday in Vladivostok and good-bye Russia
Sound of the Ocean, salt in the air, sun is shining and makes the waves looking like thousands small lights dancing on them. After about three weeks living in the city of Vladivostok we enjoy loneliness in our tent at the beach, facing the ocean - finally!
10th of May we take our luggage and ride the beautiful road to Nachotka. On the road at the seaside there are many police posts which make sometimes trouble to the bikers - they warn us. The first post at the exit of Vladi stops us. Documents, the known questions and we can pass. Repeating this procedure we are stopped by three further stations - never we have trouble. One policeman is satisfied with the passport of Alex, a policewoman doesn't know how to handle with the German bike-documents and the international driving-licence, gives all back to Carsten, just saying: "I can't understand anything!" and wishes a good trip. We have it and in afternoon we reach the 100.000 habitants counting city close to the Pacific.
Vika meets us at the Centre Place and brings us to the flat of Nina and Sergj. Nina is the sister of the friendly watchman Vladimir we met next to 'Celjabinsk' and left after two days in his house as a friend. This was before one year - we promised him to visit his sister in 'Nachotka'. Today we do, even a little bit later as planned. One day we enjoy their hospitality, get a lot of tasty food and taste some self-made 'Samagon'. We heard about it as a dangerous self-made Vodka, but this one is with herbs and tasty!
Cash (Victor, obviously biker :-) ) we already met yesterday as we arrived in town. Saturday the Bikers-Season-Opening is celebrated, Cash organisates all. So we have the possibility to put our tent on the field at the beach where the party will starts some days before Opening. Finally! After a long winter our first days in tent and even at a secure beach! Also the 'Gobi'-boxes at Carstens XL can finally act as water-carrier, an old lady asks if it's a refrigerator. ;-D One of the bikers in Nachotka rides an Africa Twin, stuffed with carriers looking like these from 'Hepco&Becker'. We try the Gobis, they fit - he is amazed!
Saison-Atkrit in Nachotka Cash we meet next to Lenin (every time a good place for meeting in Russian cities ;-D) than we drive to the meeting point. Mixed bikes and their owners gathering here - Chopper, Cruiser, Enduros, Classics and Sport bikes. Russian bikes we don't see. Further group of bikers are coming - the guest from Vladi and many known faces we meet. Some minutes later we drive in a nice convoi of about 150 bikes through the port town. Nobody is driving away, slow speed and in two rows we ride. It's different of the Opening in Vladi and nice to see! We enjoy this convoi untill we reach the place at the beach. One llonely tent standing there - it's ours. :-D
Evening four live bands make good sound - Russian Rock, well known Metal songs, different covers and Rammstein we are listening to. It sounds funny - Rammstein songs with Russian accent. We have one more reason to celebrate - today before one year we entered Russia - time has been running fast! Party becomes good, bands are great and two female dancers in short leather clothes show what they can. Morning after is not as good as the party - for most of the bikers... The field is empty again until evening; we enjoy living at the beach for some further days. Weather is fine; temperature is rising up from day to day. During our long winter-stay at Lake Baikal we often dreamed about days like this! Russians always ask us if it's not to cold and they really can't understand why we won't take one of the small huts standing along the beach.
Victor "Samovar", one of the nice bikers of Nachotka, invites us to visit him. So we change our place of rest at the 16th of May. In the small village with the long name "Vladimira-Alexandrovskoje" we spent one night in his house. His girl-friend Maria cooks the tasty Bortsh which we like so much - in the morning, midday and evening. Bortsh untill we could burst! After a funny time we take the way back to Vladivostok at the 17th of May. We planned to stay only a few days in Nachotka - it becomes a week. To nice it was to life in our tent - sun, ocean, sand, no more noise and dust of the big town Vladi! We already loooking forward to our time after Vladi when we are on the road again!
For way back we take the northern road through hilly landscape. During a few days trees has become green - our "loved" birches full of leaves, flowers on the fields, mosques on our helmets! After a nice and sunny ride we reach our next place of stay - we can sleep in the "Box" of Iron Tigers untill we leave Vladivostok.
Happy Birthday at the beginning of the world In contrast to her last birthday we spent Alex' day now in a quit nice round - no heat shock, no stress on the road under burning sun. Together with Sinus, Katja, Foxer and our hosts of the last weeks Vold, Tash, Shustrik and Lena we have a nice evening in the small kitchen of Volds apartment. Party goes on next day. The 19th of May we spent together with some of the Iron Tigers. In a Russian restaurant we enjoy tasty foods, beer and Vodka untill they close. Not yet enough we change together with "Architect" and Natasha to the BSB-Club where the bass man of Tigers band "Anglia" will play later. Loud music, good mooth and dancing - it's a long time ago we had it and we enjoy this funny evening! The band plays a song for Alex, it becomes a great party. Iron Tigers gave Alex one of their T-Shirts - a real honour, they are only for members! So we have three new shirts now because Sinus gave us also two from the festival „Facing the Ocean".
Swimming in the Box Because Andrj warns us of many alcoholics and criminals along the road to Zarubino we decide to ride it in one day. Andrj is not the one telling just stories - so we believe him and choose the secure variant.
First we planned to leave at 22nd of May, but the night becomes really bad. We take place in the Box, enjoying our last Vodka, "na passaschok". Suddenly Architect, Natascha and Max come and visit us. Stuffed with many tasty foods and some beer they want to celebrate with us the last evening. That's nice, so let's go! After a while rain starts dropping on the Box. That's nothing exciting. But unfortunately workers started to renovate the roof two days before and they haven't finished yet. So the rain starts dropping on our heads, killing electricity and within some hours whole Box is set under water. We only find one dry place for our sleeping bags - the changing room, close to all the working shoes.
Night becomes short and wet; clime is like in a greenhouse. The rain goes on the next day and we decide to stay on more day in Vladi. We help the Tigers drying the Box and ranging a little bit. In the wet Box we can't sleep one more night and so Felix invites us to his home. His wife cooks a big pot of Bortsh - especially for us! It will be our last. Entering the apartment of Felix we're wondering - a restaurated Harley stands in the living room and shines like new! He's very proud of it and shows us every detail. Started with only the frame and the engine he rebuild all the rest on his own!
Vladivostok - Sarubino, Andrjevka 23rd of May sun is shining again, we say good bye to the Tigers. Accompanied by Felix and Vold we leave Vlaidvostok. Vold we say good by at Stella, Felix brings us to the end of the bridge over the 'Pasdelnajar' river. It's the same place he said good by to Tommy and Rosa last year. Than he drives back with his 'Elemenator' - we are alone again. Engines working good at 4500 rpm, sun is shining, we are following the M60. Soon we reach the first miles without asphalt, but it makes fun!
First Police station (GAI) appears - we often have been warned of the crazy policemen here. One of the uniformed takes our passports, looks to the registration suspiciously and takes them into the post for proofing. Hoping he makes no trouble to us we are waiting. We think at the pendant Tolja gave us in Ulan-Ude - and fsjo budit! Everything ok, we can ride on. If it has been the influence of Burjatic gods or if really everything is ok - we don't know... ;-D
On the way we have to fix the speedometer of Baghira with tape. Bad roads have the holder becomes broken. Road makes fun, some miles without asphalt but even gravel, rest best asphalt, many turns and a nice view make the 220 km a pleasure to ride. The last miles on Russian roads come nearer. We ride slowly, enjoy it and start to say good by. We arrive in the small and lovely placed port town Zarubino at the afternoon. Because of there's nothing we can do now in the office and the custom we decide to search a place for our tent. Two bikers remember us from Vladivostok, we talk a little bit and they recommend us the beach of 'Andrjevka' for camping. So we go there, taking the gravel road down to the small village and further to the beach. Two cars and a big tent look like a family camping - always pretty good neighbours for camping in Russia. A couple and the mother of the wife welcome us, we build up our tent next to them and have a nice last evening in Russia.
Eta fsjo - leaving Russia We are a little bit disappointed - customers and police don't make any trouble at leaving Russia! Treated friendly we just pay 1780,- RUB custom tax for the both bikes and 10,- USD for - don't know... Only for paying the price for the both bikes they are a little bit confused. In first building they tell us we have to pay in Sokcho, later we are told we have to pay now. So we pay the 200,- USD here in Zarubino. Custom oonly take a quick view into the boxes - that's all! Our Registrations and Exit-Visas from Ulan-Ude are accepted without discussion. The lady at the passport-control just ask what we are studdying in Russia. "Culture", we answer and she accepts the student-visas and that we here by bike now.
We got it! One year in Russia without paying one Rubel of Strafa!
Leaving Russia from Zarubino we only can recommend! Riding there is beautiful, scenery is nice and custom makes no trouble. From custom in Vladi we only heard bad things and are lucky to not have to handle with the corrupt miliz there.
Dosvedanje Russia! Good by from Mother Russia is not easy - even if we thought otherwise once when we had trouble with Miliz at Lake Baikal. To many friends we found, to many impressions and experiences we made in the huge country of contrasts. But we are also looking forward to South Korea and are excited what the next country will bring. 24th of May we leave Russia at 18:00 Korean time - clocks are set back two hours. Russia becomes smaller and smaller, disappearing soon at the horizon. We are sure that we will come back sometime, some how. Do swedanje Russia!
Next report will come out of South Korea, stay with us and come back! Last greets out of Russia,
Alex und Carsten
